At Néyà Nursery and Seeds, our journey is rooted in a deep respect for the land, the seeds, and the traditions of Indigenous food systems. We believe that seeds are more than just the beginning of a garden—they are the foundation of food sovereignty, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability.

From the Beginning

Néyà Nursery and Seeds was born from a passion for preserving traditional knowledge and ensuring access to healthy, diverse, and resilient seeds. As Indigenous people, our connection to the land is more than just physical—it is spiritual, cultural, and interwoven with generations of teachings.

We recognized the urgent need to protect and revitalize heirloom and rare seed varieties, especially in northern climates where growing conditions can be challenging. With this in mind, we began curating a collection of non-GMO, open-pollinated, and organically grown seeds that could thrive in Yukon’s environment while maintaining their integrity for future generations.

In our commitment to innovation and sustainability, we have also embarked on a focused research initiative to collect and study local northern Indigenous plant species, including a variety of berries. By incorporating these native plants into our offerings, we not only celebrate their cultural significance but also enhance biodiversity within our ecosystems. This ongoing effort complements our mission, ensuring that the wisdom of our ancestors guides us in cultivating resilient landscapes for the future.

Where We Are Now

Néyà Nursery and Seeds is poised to become a pioneering Indigenous-owned and operated seed and plant nursery in Whitehorse, Yukon. We are on the cusp of opening our doors, ready to transform our initial collection of saved seeds into an extensive offering of vegetables, herbs, garlic, flowers, and berry seeds, all cultivated through innovative and sustainable practices.

Our commitment to food security and food sovereignty will drive our expansion as we collaborate with local growers, seed savers, and knowledge keepers to preserve rare and heirloom varieties. Each seed we will share will embody not only the resilience of the land but also the deep-rooted strength of our ancestors. As we look toward our launch and beyond, Néyà Nursery and Seeds is enthusiastic about empowering gardeners, farmers, and communities to reclaim their food systems—one seed at a time.
